Europe's New Smoking Stance

!±8± Europe's New Smoking Stance

Currently Europe is undergoing another major shift in attitude towards smoking. Ireland recently outlawed smoking in pubs, many pubs in the UK are following suit, and now parts of Germany are becoming smoke-free. This is the reaction to the following statistics:

· Smoking is the single most preventable cause of early death in the world

· 9 out of 10 cases of lung cancer are caused by smoking

· Smoking is the biggest avoidable risk factor for cancer

Now you probably knew those statistics, especially if you live in Australia with all the anti smoking commercials - here are some lesser known statistics.

Cigarette smoke contains around 4,000 compounds, and most are toxic including:

Acetone - great for removing nail polish (and destroying vital organs) Ammonia - ask your dry cleaner how important this chemical is to business and getting rid of those irremovable stains Benzene - vital ingredient to keep your car going (not so good for you), it's linked to leukemia Cadmium - that battery powered energizer bunny just wouldn't be the same without it Formaldehyde - one day they will probably give you a heavy dose of this chemical, but for now best to leave it to the recently dead.

There are numerous resources to quit that many smokers have tried. I did smoke for a while (when I was really cool), but fortunately it never stuck for me.

Most quitters will say it comes down to pure willpower, but if you haven't tried yet, then some helpers can be:

Going through a good detox Hypnosis Allen Carr has written a book that has helped many people including clients of mine called " Easy Way to Quit Smoking"

However one of the reasons against quitting smoking for some people is the weight gain that can come as a result. Therefore I believe it is imperative to examine your current nutritional and exercise habits to help the quitting process as much as possible. Why?

Exercise is without question one of the most effective ways to reduce stress, and vital when those cravings kick in. Exercise is also excellent in helping the detoxification process through sweat. Eating supportive meals comprised of fibrous carbohydrates (vegetables), protein (quality meat), good fats and oils (like olive oil) and unprocessed starchy carbohydrates (like brown rice) will help reduce blood sugar spikes and cravings.

Incorporating these two factors will keep your weight optimal, reduce your stress levels and help return your body to health.

Just go to your local supermarket and you will see most foods sold today are processed, in other words you will see a label and they may even have words on it.

TRF Racer

Tamiya Mini 4WD PRO TRF Racer with Mach Dash Motor and new Energizer batteries. Taken with Samsung cell phone cam (3.0 megapixels) I had to place a large cardboard on the right to prevent the car from flying off the bridge. Note that this is the exact same circuit as in the Super Avante X video I made several months ago. With the Mach Dash PRO motor, the car takes roughly 9.5 seconds to complete 1 lap (3 lanes).

Why Have Famous Brands Used Animal Logos To Represent Their Brands?

!±8± Why Have Famous Brands Used Animal Logos To Represent Their Brands?

How many times have you heard the saying clever like a fox, quick like a cat, working like ants or as blind as a bat?

Symbolizing human behavior with mammal attributes has been common for a long time now which is why a lot of famous brands have used animal images with different effects for their trademark designs. That way they can inform the unique features of their product without using any words and give their brand marks international recognition.

Easy and Smart!

Let's look at a few famous animal logos and see what they represent:

1. Ferrari's horse:

Horses are often symbolized for reliability, speed and grace which is the perfect combination that this famous car manufacturer was looking for when they wanted to design their business' trademark. A prancing horse is shown in their logo design to represent reliability with a touch of chauvinism, much like the cars they manufacture.

2. WWF's panda:

Since the main aim of the World Wildlife Federation is to protect endangered species, a giant panda was the perfect choice for their brand mark. The logo consists of a panda with a sad and cute expression to stimulate protective feelings amongst its viewers.

3. NBC's peacock:

Peacocks are known for their colorfulness. The time when this TV channel was designing its logo, Technicolor was new to the industry which is why the channel decided to use a colorful peacock for their brand mark to represent the newly discovered colors on TV.

4. Energizer's bunny:

The company energizer's batteries portray the message of constant energy. They are always on the move even when the rest of the world is tired which is why they chose a cute pink bunny to represent their brand. Rabbits are known for their speed and energy. Energizer used care free animal logos of pink bunnies for their trademark design to make the logo cute, energetic and easily relatable to people of all ages.

5. Jaguar's jaguar:

The basic message that any car manufacturer wants to portray is speed, strength and grace and none other animal can be faster and more graceful than a big cat like jaguar. Owning a car like that can make their owner feel like that legendary cat; intimidated and respected.

6. MGM's lion:

What better way to represent yourself as the king of the jungle than to use an image of a lion in your brand mark design. A lion is known to be royalty much like this media house that happens to be the pioneer in the movie world so the founders of this company chose the image of a lion to tell their customers and competitors that they mean business and they are here to stay.

7. Dove's Bird:

The bird dove is symbol of purity, innocence and freshness much like the company which is why they chose this bird to represent their business mark.

So there you have, some famous brands with creature images doing a job that no other spokesperson can do better.

Why Buy A Nikon Coolpix S51 Digital Camera?

!±8± Why Buy A Nikon Coolpix S51 Digital Camera?

Do people actually buy cameras because they think it enhances their image? With a name like Coolpix, apparently the good folks at Nikon seem to think so. The million dollar question here though, is whether buying a Nikon Coolpix S51 Digital Camera will allow you to take cool pictures like the name suggests. I suspect not, but lets take a look anyway.

One of the nice things about ultra compact cameras like the S51, is their portability. Being able to reach into a pocket quickly, grab your camera and snag a picture at a moments is a nice feature. If it works. Don't count on catching many of those candid moments with a Coolpix. It tends to take a few seconds to start up once you've powered it up, followed by another few seconds after you've squeezed the shutter button. Hopefully your subjects are slow (translation... not kids), and don't go scurrying off the second they see a camera in your hand.

Nikon, must know that the S51 is going to be carried around in all kinds of strange places. Pants pockets full of dust and beach sand, backpacks along with your paper clip collection, and car consoles right beside all your loose dimes and nickels. You'd think, they'd make the Coolpix LCD a little more durable for these hostile environments. Especially since there's no viewfinder, and your stuck staring at a scratched up LCD to frame all your photos.

Megapixels and LCD's screens seem to be the big selling point these days with manufacturers. If only more consumers realized that too many megapixels result in noisy pictures, especially with an ultra-compact camera that have such a small image sensor to start with. While bigger LCDs may seem cool, they're just a killer on batteries. I swear that little Energizer Bunny is subsidizing the camera manufacturers big LCD hype, just to ensure he stays employed forever. I'd gladly exchange a 3 inch LCD for a 2 inch one, if it meant I got 30% more pictures, and a viewfinder thrown in as a backup.

Just for good measure, here's a couple other shots to the body of the Nikon Coolpix S51:

- hard to hold onto, power switch too easy to press accidentally

- LCD display is very grainy

- door to battery and memory card is fragile and hard to open

- no auto presets dial

- photos under florescent lighting have greenish tinge
